Birthstones are beautiful. All of them. Let’s just agree on that, alright? And today I’m taking each birthstone and giving it a book. Because birthstones need books, too. *#makethatatwitterhashtagwhydontcha

 January (GARNET):
Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies. Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

Arobynn takes the fucking cake. A sadistic, mind-playing, power hungry assassin lord from the Throne of Glass series, he’s probably the worst character I’ve ever read about. *waves garnet wildly to keep him away*

February (AMETHYST):
Purple is associated with royalty – Name a book with regal qualities.

All of the Austen novels. None of them have royal characters, but the tone of the writing, the setting, the time period… it just feels elegant.

Washed out – Name a ‘wishy washy’ character, a character who is not strong or a follower.

Goddamn America Singer from The Selection series. She’s narcissistic, bitchy, selfish, and can’t make up her mind. Even though she’s the queen of a nation.

April (DIAMOND):
A diamond in the rough – Name a book that you loved but is not well known

The Beautiful Miscellaneous: a car crash, newfound abilities, and a genius father. Yes, please, more people should know about it.

Said to balance energy – Name two characters who balance each other well.

Cinder and Kai from the Cinder quartet. Cinder is a down-to-earth, hands-on person, while Kai is more regal and diplomatic. They fit and compliment each other well, and each of their skill sets is useful.

June (PEARL):
Associated with loyalty – Name a character who is loyal to the end.

I feel like no one has read The  Goldfinch, but for those of you who have: Boris. I know he might not seem like a logical choice, being a Russian/Aussie druggie alcoholic, but I actually found him surprisingly loyal and considerate. *plus he was also my favorite character in the history of books but you know*

July (RUBY):
Blood red – Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry.

THE MOTHERFUCKING DUFF. Slut-shaming, hypocrisy, and stupid drama? Hell no. That was possibly the worst book I’ve ever read.

…although the movie was hilarious, go watch it.

August (PERIDOT):
Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems) – Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character.

Let me just say, for the record, that I love Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, okay? Love her. But I always wished Zuzana could have been a bigger part of the story… I needed more cake jokes and sassiness.

September (SAPPHIRE):
Blue like the ocean which is calming – Name a book that had a calming affect on you.

Any damn Sophie Kinsella book you care to mention. Her books literally put me to sleep. Far too often.

October (OPAL): Iridescent
Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (Shiny? Lots of color?) or you can base it off of a character (Quirky? Colorful?)

This is my birthday month. Woot woot. I don’t remember any particular shiny covers, but one quirky character that comes to mind is Luna Lovegood. She’s perfect for an opal: deeper than it seems, bright and colorful, whimsical. #andthatswhyilovemybirthstone

November (TOPAZ):
Associated with resilience – Name a books with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity.

Can we all take a moment for Sophie from the Infernal Devices? That girl went through some serious shit, but she came back swinging harder than ever.

December (BLUE ZIRCON):
Associated with friendship – Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of.

Can I please join Aelin’s cadre… okay, thanks. *scoots between Lysandra and Rowan*
