I LOVE EUROPE, WHAT CAN I SAY? // TOP TEN TUESDAY #2

Europe is my obsession. Its actors, its culture, its sophisticated originality: who couldn’t help loving it? So today, for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and Bookish, I’m naming the top ten books set in Europe.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

A lonely island off the coast of Wales is the place where this little ghost of a book takes place, and it’s a perfectly creepy setting for the charming, yet disturbing plot.

Harry Potter

Because yes. This is my childhood, this is in England, just yes.

Code Name Verity

There’s a little England and France in this touching piece of historical fiction. Featuring two girls, one a pilot and one a radio operator, it travels through their journey as they befriend one another and find hope during the Cold War. But when they accidentally crash land from a plane in France, one is taken hostage by the Nazis and the other is presumed dead. *all the feels guys this one will hit you hard*

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Have you ever read a book set in the fucking Czech Republic? No, I didn’t think so. Add chimera, seraphim, and demons into that, and you have the godly Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. PLEASE GO AND READ IT.

Clockwork Angel (+ TID)

The Infernal Devices is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, and it’s set in a victorian London where murderous clockwork creatures are roaming the streets, looking for their victims. Haunting and romantic, this is one of my favorite series of all time.

Jane Eyre

Do we even need to debate this brilliant novel. I think the fuck not.

Me Before You

Awwww. I loved this adorable but sad romance. Set in England (once again) it features a quirky, young woman who’s assigned to take care of a paraplegic man. They fall in love, and go out on dates, and… it’s just a sweet cupcake of a story.

Between Shades of Grey

RUTA SEPETYS. MY GIRL. She is a master of historical fiction, and this book is set mainly in Lithuania, but travels up to Siberia and finally Antarctica, where the Lithuanian slaves are sent to build houses and factories for Soviet soldiers.

Salt to the Sea

Okay, I couldn’t resist one more of hers. This focuses on Poland, but more so on three immigrants trying to get onto a ship. This was when Germany and Russia both decided to attack Poland within a week of each other, so the entire country was racing to get out of the way. Her books are very depressing, but that’s the way history is. It’s sad as fuck.
