Europe is my obsession. Its actors, its culture, its sophisticated originality: who couldn’t help loving it? So today, for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and Bookish, I’m naming the top ten books set in Europe.
Here we goooooooooooooooooo.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
A lonely island off the coast of Wales is the place where this little ghost of a book takes place, and it’s a perfectly creepy setting for the charming, yet disturbing plot.
Harry Potter
Because yes. This is my childhood, this is in England, just yes.
Code Name Verity
There’s a little England and France in this touching piece of historical fiction. Featuring two girls, one a pilot and one a radio operator, it travels through their journey as they befriend one another and find hope during the Cold War. But when they accidentally crash land from a plane in France, one is taken hostage by the Nazis and the other is presumed dead. *all the feels guys this one will hit you hard*
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Have you ever read a book set in the fucking Czech Republic? No, I didn’t think so. Add chimera, seraphim, and demons into that, and you have the godly Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. PLEASE GO AND READ IT.
Clockwork Angel (+ TID)
The Infernal Devices is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, and it’s set in a victorian London where murderous clockwork creatures are roaming the streets, looking for their victims. Haunting and romantic, this is one of my favorite series of all time.
Jane Eyre
Do we even need to debate this brilliant novel. I think the fuck not.
Me Before You
Awwww. I loved this adorable but sad romance. Set in England (once again) it features a quirky, young woman who’s assigned to take care of a paraplegic man. They fall in love, and go out on dates, and… it’s just a sweet cupcake of a story.
Between Shades of Grey
RUTA SEPETYS. MY GIRL. She is a master of historical fiction, and this book is set mainly in Lithuania, but travels up to Siberia and finally Antarctica, where the Lithuanian slaves are sent to build houses and factories for Soviet soldiers.
Salt to the Sea
Okay, I couldn’t resist one more of hers. This focuses on Poland, but more so on three immigrants trying to get onto a ship. This was when Germany and Russia both decided to attack Poland within a week of each other, so the entire country was racing to get out of the way. Her books are very depressing, but that’s the way history is. It’s sad as fuck.

Have you read any of these books? Are you planning to? And please leave your Top Ten Tuesday posts in the comments so I can read them.
Love your topic and your list – there are such a lot of great books set in Europe!

Code Name Verity, Between Shades of Gray and Salt to the Sea are all so heartbreaking and brilliantly researched. They’re definitely three of my favorite historical fiction novels. I loved the setting in Daughter of Smoke & Bone as well. š Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! ā¤

Books set in Europe are so much fun! Maybe it’s because I live in the US and I’ve never been to Europe, but I think that they’re pretty cool. š I couldn’t finish Code Name Variety. I was so bored that I didn’t find it worth while for me to finish it. I still have the book though, so maybe I’ll try it again sometime.

Awww, you should give it another go! I don’t live in Europe either, but I’ve always dreamed of visiting. š

AGH I KNOW. It breaks your heart into a million tiny pieces and then steps on them. You should definitely read Salt to the Sea, although again, it’s very possible that it will slaughter your feels.

Okay, I feel like I’m the only person on the planet who hasn’t read Code Name Verity yet, and I really need to fix that. I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things! Have you read its sequel/companion? I’ve heard good things about that one too! Great post. š

No, I haven’t even heard of a companion! I generally don’t do too well with novellas and such, so idk if I’d read it, but I did LOVE that book.

Salt to the Sea still gets to me. World War II based novels always seem to hit me where it hurts. Such a moving book. I loved everything about it.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone ā¤ Oh how I love that series. It definitely made me want to hop on a plane and explore the wonders of the Czech Republic.

I’ve been wanting to go to Europe ever since I can remember, but still haven’t had the chance. I actually did the same topic, coincidentally. Great list! I loved Salt to the Sea, Harry Potter, Miss Peregrines, and The Infernal Devices and I’ve been wanting to read a lot of these for awhile. Now I want to read them even more knowing that they are set in Europe.
