What’s that you’re screaming in my ear? I can’t believe you managed to get through an insane, whirlwind month of this “blogging” business? Fuck yeah. And I crushed it. This isn’t my *first* time blogging, so obviously it was a lot easier than the usual first month, but still. It’s been months since I blogged, and I just fell in love with it all over again.
I’m an unabashed V.E. Schwab fan. I read A Darker Shade of Magic last year and absolutely adored it, so I had high hopes for this brand new fantasy/dystopian twist from her. And it was full of glorious action and writing and kickass, but it missed that certain sprinkle of charm that ADSOM had. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, since it twinkled brightly in some areas and then gloomily retreated in others. ADSOM was full of innovative ideas and characters, but this felt like a really good idea that was unfortunately mixed with a few YA clichés and ended up being a slightly off-putting book.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday (over at Broke & Bookish) is a back-to-school freebie. I’m going to school in exactly a week *nervous breathing*, and I’ve decided to share the ten five (because I’m lazy) books I would make my students read if I was a teacher. Because sometimes people just need to be pushed into things.

This witty, endearing book managed to entertain me with an intriguing story about murder, backstabbing, and overall grisliness, while engaging me with an interesting point of view on feminism in the late 1800’s. The characters were adorable, and the descriptions and writing were lavish enough to fit the time period, while not overpowering the plot. A+ all around.

Oh, this book was good. Short and sweet, witty and endearing, poetic and sarcastic, I read it completely through in an hour and thoroughly enjoyed every second. I couldn’t praise the four intelligent, hilarious women who got together to create this enough.
Always wondered how to be Parisian? Never fear, this book’s got you covered. From hangovers to fashion, lovers to dinner parties, it’ll take you through the sad, romantic world of being a Parisienne.
In a nutshell (and trust me, I know her well), I’d say the Parisienne is completely cuckoo!
Again, I’m doing a book tag that I have not been tagged in. I’m such a rebel. But this one was too fun to pass up on. My Goodreads TBR is virtually overflowing with books, and I wanted to share them all with you.
Because talking about how you’re going to read books is sometimes better than reading said books. Obviously.
This was a psychotic, hilarious, tear-wrenching, ingenious emotional roller coaster of a novel. And I f**king loved it. God, I loved it. And I have the book that just might make the top of my fantasy reads this year. ALSO DID YOU KNOW THAT IT’S GOING TO BE A SERIES?! #mindblown
If you might be shying away from this book, like I was, because it has a strange unique format and you’re not sure if you’ll understand the plot and characters through it, TRUST ME: the style only increases the depth, suspense, and emotional pull. I was immediately sucked in, and the switches of POV and plotlines wasn’t hard to figure out at all. It’s basically the story of how two spaceships ran away from the big bad terrorist spaceship, but it’s all so much more complex and layered.
